Hmm, What a Day

I actually had an interest but not terrible day today. Very rare. Here it is:

First Period: Math: Didn't do anything interesting.
Second Period: Science: This was one of my more interesting classes. We did, well, science, but then my friend and I went down to take the cardboard from the cafeteria to the recycling bins. It's something our class is assigned this semester, and we rotate. This week was my turn. Luckily, as we went to do boxes today, we had lots of extra time, because we were on a wonky schedule for an assembly for Veteran's Day. So we went to the cafeteria's back door, like we usually do, to get the boxes, and when we opened the door, we saw this big honkin' cardboard box filled with cardboard, along with a cart filled with cardboard. Usually we had four people, but two girls stayed behind today, saying it was too cold. (it was flipping cold today) So we tried to load this big box onto the cart, and it weighed... well, a lot. So we got it on the cart (the lunch ladies found our attempts comical :P), and rolled our cart out into the cold. And wind. It's strange, cardboard can be so heavy, but it catches the wind so well. It was like trying to kite surf against the wind as we dragged our load around the school to the recycling bins. Once we got there, we unlocked (I don't know why those weirdos have the recycling bins locked shut when there're holes in the front that you can easily shove paper through) the lid to a bin, and hefted it open. Not so hard with help from the wind. We dumped all the cardboard in without a problem, and then proceeded to close the lid. Try to close the lid. Big, black plastic lid on a hinge, and the wind was pushing it open. We finally pushed it up enough that gravity took charge, and the lid fell closed. Almost. This time, it snagged, and wouldn't close, no matter how hard we pushed. We tried for more than fifteen minutes. At one point, my comrade got whacked on the head when she stood behind the recycling bin trying to figure out how to close it. The wind picked up, and WHAM, came down right on her head. Ouch. Eventually we just got a teacher, and figured out how to close the bin. We then took the cart back, no longer able to feel noses, ears, or fingers. The lunch ladies acknowledged our attempts and gave us cookies. :)
Still Part of Second Period: The Assembly: We headed to the assembly right from the kitchen; we had spent all the rest of class trying to close that darn thing. We took seats near the front, munching our cookies. I shan't relate in detail the assembly, because it was rather boring. Some military personnel carried in the flag, we said the pledge, a student sang the national anthem (she had an annoying whiney sort of lilt), there was lots of talking, we watched some video clips, more talking, Miss Utah sang us a song, we saw some pictures, retired the flag, and went to third period.
Third Period: Shop Class, basically: So, we've been working on a little note holder out of wood and plastic. I had my wood all sanded, drilled, and stained, and just needed to attach and bend the plastic. I took the paper off the plastic, and set it against my wood, and to my dismay, the screw holes didn't match up! I thought and thought, but the only solution was to drill another hole for my screw, which by itself is not so bad, but the classes were cut short today for the assembly. I complained until, trying to console me, my friend said, "Don't worry about it, my plastic doesn't fit either." I looked over at her plastic, then at my wood. Then at my plastic and her wood. It looked as though her plastic would fit my wood, and that my plastic would fit her wood. We must've switched, though I don't know when. Anyhow, we screwed our plastic and wood together, and set them on the plastic heaters to heat the plastic, so we could bend it. I finished, and no have a spiffy little note and pencil holder.
Fourth Period: History: Boring. Nothing to report but the usual.
Lunch: Nasty. Same as usual.
Fifth Period: Art: Same as usual.
Sixth and Seventh Periods: English: Coolest thing today. We had a sub, and all we had to do was write about the assembly, and then we read for the rest of the time!
Bus Ride Home: Very fun. I sat at the front of the bus with my friend, and we sat on the floor, between our seats and the backs of the seats ahead. Kind of weird, there actually weren't seats in front of ours, but whoever designed the bus made seat backs in front of the front seats. (does that make sense, what I said? I doubt it) So, my friend got stuck, and almost couldn't get out. So we sat in weird positions, and joked and laughed all the way home.
